The Hardest Thing

The Hardest Thing

What's the hardest thing about
parenting for you?
(just one thing)

The above is a Facebook post a friend shared that attracted an amazing list of answers:

  • money

  • empty nest

  • balance

  • guilt

  • patience

As you can imagine, the list goes on.

I love this list! It's real. It's vulnerable. It's parenting.

There's a LOT of hard things about parenting, and I don't believe that the answer is to think positive thoughts, ignore your real feelings, or keep quiet and keep going. I do believe the Model can help; in fact there's one add on thought that could apply to ALL "parenting is hard" thoughts.

"The Model"- a Brooke Castillo process, with an Amanda Kingsley twist...

SITUATION
- Parenting

THOUGHT ABOUT THE SITUATION
- “Parenting is hard.”

THE FEELING THIS THOUGHT TRIGGERS
- Overwhelm

THE ACTION TAKEN FROM THIS FEELING
- Parenting in a state of overwhelm; complaining, and or suffering.

THE RESULT OF THIS ACTION
-Parenting gets harder!

ASK (Is this in alignment with my WHY?)
-No

The Model applied for realignment:

SAME SITUATION
- Parenting

NEW THOUGHT ABOUT THE SAME SITUATION
- “Parenting is hard, and that's OK.”

THE NEW FEELING THIS THOUGHT TRIGGERS
- Peace and normalcy

THE NEW ACTION TAKEN FROM THIS FEELING
- Parenting with a knowing that you are doing the very best you can in a universally challenging task. Parenting without feeling alone or defective.

THE RESULT
-
Pride

ASK (Is this in alignment with my WHY?)
-YES!

WIN!

Where can you add "and that's ok?"
