Permission to Want What you Want

Permission to Want What you Want

A mentor and friend introduced the following concept to me years ago-

YOU HAVE PERMISSION TO
WANT WHAT YOU WANT

You know when someone says something to you and it makes perfect intellectual sense, but doesn't fully click on a deep soulful level? This permission to "want what I want" has stuck with me for a long time, but I've been hesitating, still feeling pangs of guilt for desiring more than I already have.

It's tempting to think there's something wrong with you when other people decide to want what they want and their life seemingly changes in an instant, and here you are holding on for dear life and waiting for the moment it clicks.

Newsflash: There's nothing wrong with you or with me!

We're all doing this growth work at different speed and with different tools. Some of us (like me) will put phrases like "permission to want what you want" in our back pocket until the moment when everything starts to make sense.

I've been living an incredible life for 38 years now. Some years have been better than others, and in the last three I REALLY started taking back control, stripping away layers and creating the life of my dreams.

Today I unapologetically want what I want, and it feels amazing!

"The Model"- a Brooke Castillo process, with an Amanda Kingsley twist...

SITUATION
- I desire things I don't have.

THOUGHT ABOUT THE SITUATION
- “It's selfish and greedy to want what you want.”

THE FEELING THIS THOUGHT TRIGGERS
- Guilt

THE ACTION TAKEN FROM THIS FEELING
- Intentionally and unintentionally remaining stuck where I am so as not to be selfish or greedy.

THE RESULT OF THIS ACTION
- Stagnation, lack of growth, unfulfilled desire

ASK (Is this in alignment with my WHY?)
-No

The Model applied for realignment:

SAME SITUATION
- I desire things I don't have.

NEW THOUGHT ABOUT THE SAME SITUATION
- “Desire when acted upon leads to growth. My desire encourages me to learn new things, meet new people, and make positive changes in my life. These changes inspire others to do the same.”

THE NEW FEELING THIS THOUGHT TRIGGERS
- Control and curiosity. Desire to to "have" becomes desire to "grow".

THE NEW ACTION TAKEN FROM THIS FEELING
- Seek the situations and experiences that will allow me to both grow and to acquire the things I want in life.

THE RESULT
- Expansion leading to fulfilled desire

ASK (Is this in alignment with my WHY?)
-YES!

WIN!

What do you desire?

How can you reframe your thoughts to live your WHY?
