Fevers and Flexibility
Little man slept at rest time at school yesterday. That's never a good sign, and sure enough a post dinner kiss revealed a light fever. Fever and cough persisted through the night, but he woke up this morning all cooled down and wanting to go to school. School rules and parenting integrity state that school shall not be attended 24 hours post fever.
Some of the first thoughts running through my mind:
So much for a productive work day. (defeat)
Should I send him and pretend the fever never flared. (immoral)
Another preschool day paid for and slipped through the cracks. (tight)
None of these thoughts fruit any productive feelings or useful actions, so I knew it was time to switch things up.
"The Model"- a Brooke Castillo process, with an Amanda Kingsley twist...
SITUATION
- Kid home "sick"
THOUGHT ABOUT THE SITUATION
- “This sucks.”
THE FEELING THIS THOUGHT TRIGGERS
- Frustration
THE ACTION TAKEN FROM THIS FEELING
- Make a mental list of things that now won't get done, and have to be rescheduled, while cringing at the sound of his not sick whine.
THE RESULT OF THIS ACTION
- Deadlock time wasting
ASK (Is this in alignment with my WHY?)
-No
The Model applied for realignment:
SAME SITUATION
- Kid home "sick"
NEW THOUGHT ABOUT THE SAME SITUATION
- “This is exactly why I work from home. I GET to stay home and can easily arrange scheduling around my most important gift- my family."
THE NEW FEELING THIS THOUGHT TRIGGERS
- Gratitude and so much LOVE
THE NEW ACTION TAKEN FROM THIS FEELING
- Cancel morning mastermind meeting, schedule two training webinars I can attend while he watches TV, plan a lunch out with a friend of mine who also has a 4 year old boy home today.
THE RESULT
- From what felt like an inconvenience, treasures arise. Feeling even more love and gratitude for this amazing life.
ASK (Is this in alignment with my WHY?)
-YES!
WIN!
How's the process feeling?
