WAHM Lessons
Last weekend I attended an INCREDIBLE company training in Los Angeles. I was only away 3 days, but I came home FIRED up and excited.
Fire or no fire:
Day one home was all about sleep. Having missed two nights of sleep to travel across the country I felt like I was back in my double birth on call doula days.
Day two, back home was my nephews adoption and volunteer at the elementary school day.
Day three, volunteer with the middle school at the ski mountain day.
Day four, two kids home sick from school.
Day five, sick all gone but not school post fever so another day with a four year old at home.
Being a work at home mom (WAHM) means you have to be adaptable in time management. You have to know where and what to plug into the spaces between family and community life. I wouldn't have made it this far in the mamapreneur journey if I weren't adaptable, but some weeks are more challenging than others. The toughest ones are usually the ones where my inspiration is so high I wish I could seclude myself on a quiet island and pump up the business buzz.
However, these less than ideal work weeks are also the ones where I let my dreams marinate. The ones where I feel the passion so strongly that there's not a thing in the world that will slow me down. It's in these weeks that I get even MORE excited about the life I am building.
What I've learned is that above all FAITH is the way. As a mentor once described "titanium trust" is a must. Last week was less than perfect and there were moments when I was utterly frustrated, but when you have a strong WHY and a sweet vehicle to live it, you let the tough times inspire you as much as the celebratory ones.
"The Model"- a Brooke Castillo process, with an Amanda Kingsley twist...
SITUATION
- Less than desired work time
THOUGHT ABOUT THE SITUATION
- "Working from home with a family is too hard."
THE FEELING THIS THOUGHT TRIGGERS
- Frustration! (happening even as I write this post)
THE ACTION TAKEN FROM THIS FEELING
- Indulge in lots of self-doubt and dream crushing thouhts.
THE RESULT OF THIS ACTION
- Less than desirable action, and less than desirable results.
ASK (Is this in alignment with my WHY?)
-No
The Model applied for realignment:
SAME SITUATION
- Less than desired work time
NEW THOUGHT ABOUT THE SAME SITUATION
- “I'm doing the best that I can with the tools that I have."
THE NEW FEELING THIS THOUGHT TRIGGERS
- Accomplished
THE NEW ACTION TAKEN FROM THIS FEELING
- Keep doing my best and release all expectation and comparison to others.
THE RESULT
- Things keep getting better and better as the tools get better and better.
ASK (Is this in alignment with my WHY?)
-YES!
WIN!
WAHM are you with me?
What are your tools?
